“How do you make space for recreation in dense cities where it appears there is no space to be had? One capital in South America may have the answer.”

Santiago’s Ciclo Recreo Via initiative, which invites cyclists, runners and skaters to take over certain streets on Sunday mornings, has proved hugely popular, with thousands of people getting involved each week. In this short film for BBC World Hacks, I interviewed the scheme’s founder Gonzalo Stierling on why it’s important to remember that cars didn’t always rule the roads.
